He is fully certified with his Captain’s licence for 5 years. This is his 3rd looking after the running of Zem Zem and the hospitality of our guests.
The Owners
Phil and Alison Buckley of Bougainville Travel, in partnership with Apo and Harriet of Sultan Garden Restaurant, own Zem Zem Boat.
Phil and Alison met in Istanbul whilst leading tours for an adventure travel company in 1994 and got married in Kaş (and England) in 1996. Thereafter we’ve lived in Kaş ever since latterly in our house on the peninsula. We’ve got 2 children schooled locally. Phil is a founding partner of Bougainville Travel and both Alison and he are partners in Stone Property Services. When the children are a bit older we hope to go travelling again. In the meantime our hobbies are wine and walking.
Phil Buckley, originally hailing from Manchester, England was a student of Art History and European literature. He travelled during his gap year of employment he started doing coach tours and representative jobs in continental Europe. Later he decided to try something alternative whilst on a break from a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Art. An adventure company offered him trekking in Turkey and he never went back! When not travelling, Phil is interested in photography, technology, music and football.
Apo and Harriet have been running Sultan Garden Restaurant in Kaş for the last 5 years. Apo is originally from Gaziantep, grew up in Kaş and learnt the restaurant industry working in various restaurants, his last job being head chef at Akropol. Harriet owned The Lexington Restaurant in London’s Soho before moving to Kaş 13 years ago. After having one child she then worked with Phil at Bougainville for 8 years before joining Apo full time at the restaurant. They will also be opening a small gallery this year called The Arden Gallery.
